I'm not going to lie, stoke levels have been low the past couple of months. And while we haven't been absent of surf in the neighborhood, technically, the wind has been huffing and puffing, and the sand just hasn't been in the right place. There have been some opportunities to find respite... days when winds calmed down and a short drive would've provided a passable session or two. But fun, rideable surf to play on at the end of the street? Yeah, no. Un-stoked.
So when I saw the wave wizards were forecasting swell for my birthday, with the possibility of calmer winds accompanying, I got excited. I felt like enough sand had moved from the past six weeks of onshore winds that the neighborhood breaks were actually behaving a little better now. But the forecast was off and it wasn't until the 19th when swell and wind finally cooperated. Still trough-y. Still not breaking properly across the middle into the beach. But not completely terrible either, with only a minor bump to it. It was high tide and breaking quick on the inside. The rocks that usually made an inside session treacherous, were covered in sand. So for a few hours I scored fun surf in the hood, a bike ride from my doorstep. Stoke intact.
DECEMBER 19, 2024
I heard there've been better days down south. Thanks for all the calls you guys! But I've got my fingers crossed that we get some decent surf on or around Christmas day. I'm attempting my first go at the Surfing Santas in Cocoa Beach on Christmas Eve morning. I designed an original Jebshred HoHoHo rashie with a Santa-style bucket hat (engineered with parts from old surf hats). I'm not sure I'll be very competitive in the costume contest amongst the kids, but it looks like there should be plenty of choppy surf available for the taking. So time to shred! It could be worse, like hopelessly flat and cold, so I'll take choppy and warm. Fingers crossed we get it good.
I caught the Queers, opening for legends Black Flag at Wynfield's in Satellite Beach on the 14th with old friends. Even snapped a photo of me with BF's Greg Ginn before the Queers set. It's not every day you meet your punk idols. Thanks for coming down to these parts! I was stoked to see an old school punk show without having to drive anywhere! Until next time boys and girls...
Here are a couple of very similar sets I found on YouTube, enjoy the show...
No gift guide blogs this year, but here's one I did in 2022, it still applies I guess. Hey, are you ready for Christmas?!? Yewwwwwwww! I know I'm ready... to put it in the rearview mirror!
Bah-humbug. Always so glad when it's over. Ha. You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch.
I hope you're surfing where you are.
